Orion Environmental – Raising the Roof and Cleaning House – Colorado Capital Annex Building

The annex was designed by G. Meredith Musick, a prominent Denver architect, and is an example of Art Deco architecture.

For many years the capital Annex Building as stood empty following the Department of Revenue’s relocation to Lakewood. With this renovation and revitalization project not only is the classic Art Deco building getting updates it desperately needs, but lawmakers will be able to return to Captial Hill.

The annex is located at the corner of East 14th Avenue and Sherman Street, across the street from the State Capitol and the State Museum Building. Constructed between 1939 and 1941, the annex’s design is modern, rectangular, and symmetrical, with a column effect on the north front.

The preservation of this building and its architecture is of upmost importance to the Colorado State Government as well as Orion. We are currently at work on this job site working on both the Asbestos Abatement and the roof demolition including concrete cutting and removal that will help keep this history building’s Architectual integrity and appeal while providing updated and safe working conditions for our Colorado Lawmakers.

With work currently in progress on this project, Orion Environmental, Inc. is contributing by delivering comprehensive turn-key core and shell asbestos abatement and demolition services for the full renovation. As part of this project, Orion Environmental, Inc. is removing the structural roof system to make way for a new penthouse being added to the 7th floor, which will overlook the State Capitol Building.
